GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a flat 10% tax on most goods and services, in place since 1 July 2000. To add GST, multiply by 1.1. To remove GST from a total, divide by 1.1 — and the GST portion of any inclusive price is simply the total divided by 11.
$100 × 1.1 = $110. The GST is $10.
Divide by 11: $110 ÷ 11 = $10 GST. The ex-GST price is $110 ÷ 1.1 = $100.
You must register for and charge GST if your business turnover is $75,000 or more ($150,000 for non-profits). Check with the ATO for your situation.
